The lowest cloud layer in Azimuth is called the understorm. Despite being a key aspect of Azimuth's geography (arguably one of the only aspects of it's natural geography), the understorm is not particularly well understood. What is well known however, is that it's home to the most violent turbulence and severe weather in the world. Probes have revealed wind speeds in some parts in excess of 400 kph, and a focused wind shear at MSL of 100 kph or more.
To most inhabitants of Azimuth, the understorm forms the bottom of the world; the lowest point beyond which is nothing but oblivion. As such, the understorm features heavily in spiritual beliefs and often plays host to the darkest demons of myth.
